Thessalia screamed as the house seemed to moan. The walls shuddered and moved as if little hands were trying to break through.  Somewhere in the back of the house, another shout came from one of Mireille's other friends.  There were sounds similar to that of a battle and curses from those injured in the fight.  Riden came out of no where, backing toward them.  There was another moan and the girls gasped with Thessalia screaming again as a creature followed after him.

“What the hell did you bring it here for?” Bahgel shouted as he shoved Thessalia behind him.

“Not like I was given a choice.  I only just heard it behind me,” Riden snapped as he kicked at it.  His eyes widened in shock as his foot seemed to sink into the creature's chest.  “Shit...” The creature reached up and grabbed a hold of Riden's leg, griping it in a vise-like hold before it twisted his leg, flipping him to the ground.

“That's one way to get your leg free...”  Binda breathed, eyes locked on the creature.  Another moan caught her attention and she snapped her gaze away from him only to find more coming toward them.  “Gods... we're dead...”  She screamed as there was a sudden pounding on the front door.

“Open the door!”

Binda frowned.  “Was that Kaida?” she wondered aloud as Thessalia  turned and pounded back.

“We can't! It's stuck!  Help!”

“Get away from the door.  Far away!”

No questions were asked as they all herded back toward the lounge room and out of the way.  There was a thunderous clap and a hole blew through the door.  The projectile that had been fired through the door ripped through the creature that had flipped Riden to the floor and caused it to topple over.  Before any breaths of relief could be given, the creature stirred and sat back up.

“This is like something out of The Night Of The Living Dead,” Bahgel commented, reaching out but missing Thessalia as she ran toward the door.  “Thessalia! Get back here!”

There was another crash as the door shattered from the outside and a teen with long, pale gold hair and large blue-gray eyes stepped inside with a wide grin and a wave.  “Hello, I am guessing you to be Thessalia?”

“Jasmine?”  Binda would have jumped for joy had her legs been willing to cooperate.  Her smile widened as Kaida entered from behind Jasmine with a small handgun raised and pointed off to the side away from the group of people nearby.  “Am I glad to see you guys!  How did you know where to find us?”

“Aside from everyone knowing you were talking about coming out here?” Kaida returned with a smirk that made Binda smack her palm to her forehead.

“I had an odd reading when I cast the runes tonight,” Jasmine explained as she sized up the zombie creatures coming down the hall.

“You had an odd feeling while having diarrhea?” Bahgel asked incredulously.

“Runes not runs,” Jasmine corrected with an annoyed roll of her eyes. “Anyway, something didn't seem right so I went to Mireille's house.  I was told she actually came out here with a group of people so I started here.”

“We ran into each other and she told me something was wrong,” Kaida added.  “Not knowing what we would be coming across, I stole off with Suriel's pistol so we could have something just in case.  Good thing, too, with that door sealed up like it was.  The whole house looks like it is overgrown with vines.  That was what was blocking the door.”

“We can talk later,” Jasmine said as the creature got closer.  “Go on, get out of here!”  She asked nothing about the events of the night as one of the creatures got close enough to reach out at her.  She ducked and reached into her boot for a dagger that she promptly used to slash off the creature's head.  Pulling her foot back as if preparing to make a field kick in a football game, she sent the creature's head soaring through the air and up onto the second level where they heard it land with a sickening thud on the hall floor.  “Sweet,” she cheered to herself.  “Now I know zombies do exist.”

“You're insane,” Bahgel said as he helped Will lift Zidar and carry him out of the door and into the front yard to where they left their car.

Jasmine shrugged his remark off and gave Binda a wink.  “Maybe insane, but at least I can have some fun.”

“Please just be careful, Rowen and Sage still haven't come back yet.  Neither has Mireille or Orifiel.”

“Mireille and Orifiel are together?” Riden asked, turning to give Binda a searching look.

She nodded.  “She said she found a passageway in a closet upstairs.  She thought maybe Jade would be in that passage.  He didn't think it would be wise for her to explore it alone so he went with her.”

A muscle in Riden's jaw twitched.  “Right.”

“Now, now, no time for a jealousy fit,” Jasmine chided lightly as she began to push him toward the door.  “Either you help find the others or get your arse outside.”

Riden's eyes narrowed.  “I'll go find Rowen and Sage and get them out.”

“Good, then we'll go after Orifiel and Mireille,” Kaida said with a nod as she shot a hole through the head of another creature.

Jasmine helped Binda outside and handed her to Will who had just returned to the front porch and then headed back inside to join Kaida on the stairs and into the hall.

“I don't get it,” Bahgel commented idly as Will came closer to him.  “Those two just appear out of no where and act like this kind of thing is an everyday occurrence.  Never once did they question it at all.”

Will shrugged.  “Maybe to them this is an everyday occurrence.”  He ignored the blank stare Bahgel passed to him  as he helped Binda into Mireille's car.  “It doesn't matter anyway.  We're out and almost ready to get home.”

“As soon as Orifiel gets out of there, we're gone.”

“The devil is just going to have to be disappointed, then,” Mireille countered, her body tensed as Rose pulled a dagger from its sheath on her bicep.  “I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon.”

“Too bad you don't have a choice.”  Rose launched herself at Angel, forcing her to step back in an attempt to block the attack.

“Orifiel, get Jade out of here, please!”

He arched an eyebrow, but stepped forward to catch Jade before she could fall backward.  He gave Mireille one last look before he led Jade out of the hidden room.  Mireille and Rose continued their battle.  Mireille's heart was pounding against her chest and she began to wonder if she might have lost her mind.  Her opponent was the Black Rose Assassin; the most deadly woman of all of Eudora.  It did not take long for her to realize that not only was Rose good with weapons, but she was knowledgeable in the magical arts as well.  She began to spend the fight keeping her eyes open for any weakness that could be exploited to her advantage.

“They may get out of this room, but they'll never get out of this house.”

“Not like you'll be able to see one way or another now, will you?” Mirelle snapped back as she managed a spinning kick to Rose's mid-section, forcing her back a few steps.  The assassin growled and her eyes flashed as she brought her arms out to her side.  Mirelle blinked as she watched the woman begin to chant something under her breath an in an ancient tongue.  She might not have known what was being said, but she had the sneaking suspicion that she was not going to like it.  Her suspicions were confirmed when vines began to appear from the floor and wrap tightly around her legs and waist.  She cried out as she struggled to keep her arms free but quickly found herself overpowered by the magic's grip.

Rose approached the teen, her crimson eyes onyx with her Power.  “Now for the final, crushing, blow,” she purred and laughed when Mireille's eyes closed and her head swayed as the vines constricted even more around her.  “Can you hear them?  Your bones as they reach a point to where they've no choice but to crack and shatter?”  Her eyes sparkled with glee as she watched the blood drain from the teen's face.  She was so caught up in her victory that she never heard the quiet footfalls of the person sneaking up behind her.  The assassin's laughter was cut short by a sudden blow to the side of her head that sent her to the floor with a thud.

Jasmine glared down at the fallen woman as she lowered the candlestick  she had used to strike her.  “Call me crazy, but I don't like people who try to crush my friends.”  She glanced to her side as Orifiel moved passed her to step closer to Mireille.

The teen's eyes remained closed, her head lowered, as he approached her.  He curiously touched the vines keeping her in place before taking a hold of one in an attempt to break it free. He stopped only when Jasmine joined him, handing him a dagger she had found on a nearby wall-side table.

“This might help.”

He took the dagger and together, they both hacked away at the vines, being careful not to slash deep enough to cut into their friend.  It was short work between the two of them before Orifiel caught the teen before she could fall to the floor.  He shifted her as he knelt with her to the floor to get a better look at her face.

“She's still breathing, that is a good sign,” Jasmine commented softly as she noted the rise and fall of her friend's chest.  She glanced over her shoulder at the woman on the floor.  “We should get her out of here while we still have a chance.”

Orifiel nodded in agreement and shifted Mireille's body again to lift her into his arms and carefully carry her up the stairs and back into the bedroom.  Jasmine followed behind them, closing the door to the passage behind her as they all made their way into the hall.  All around them, the zombie-like creatures lay scattered on the floor.  It was as if someone had flipped a switch that turned off their energy and render them harmless.  Once outside the house, Orifiel stopped and looked between the cars that were left. Mireille's car had been turned on with Riden behind the wheel.  Rowen and Binda sat in the back of that one.  Sage had his own vehicle ready and waiting as well.  Will's car was already missing, gone to take Zidar to the hospital for medical treatment.  Kaida had also left with Jade to get her medical assistance as well.  Bahgel stood outside of Orifiel's car, glaring up at the house.

“We can take her from here, Orifiel,” Riden called out to him as he climbed out of Mireille's car.  “There is room in Sage's car for her to lay down in the back.”

The point was made clear by the tone of Riden's voice.  Orifiel was no longer needed or wanted around them.  Coven verses Chainer; their rules forced them apart.  Jasmine glanced between them before a low groan from the foundation of the house sounded more unrest and had her shoving against Orifiel's back to force him off the porch before anything to keep them trapped there any longer.  They had just hit the driveway when there was a shattering explosion and the house began to cave in on itself, sinking into the depths of the Earth.  She and Orifiel had turned around to watch it disappear until all was quiet again.

“At least no one else will have to get caught up in the evils of that place,” Jasmine murmured.

Orifiel nodded silently and looked down when Mireille moaned and stirred in his arms.  He turned at the pointed cough behind him and handed her off to Riden.  “She's your concern now.”  Without another word, Orifiel stuffed his hands into his pants pockets and made his way to his own car.  Bahgel got in on the passenger side and glanced in the back at Thessalia who had somehow managed to drift into some kind of sleep.  There was a roar as the car jumped to life and Orifiel tore out of the drive and down the road.

“Going out on a limb here and guessing you all will never get a long,” Jasmine commented idly as she climbed into the back of Sage's car with Mireille, helping to ease the teen's head to rest upon her lap.

Sage sighed and shook his head.  “If it were up to Mireille, we would, but at the moment, its more up to Riden and he despises Orifiel with a passion that will be rivaled by nothing.”

“Shame.  Not all of them are bad.  And the one has a really nice neck, too.”

Sage arched his eyebrow at the remark, but kept quiet as he noticed she was already busy trying to keep Mireille secured on the seat as they drove away.  He had to admit to himself that Jasmine was right.  Orifiel did not have to go back in after Mireille.  He did so of his own volition.  Will had even gone out of his way to keep Binda relatively comfortable after her legs had been injured.  He began to wonder if there was ever a way the two groups could ever get over their differences enough to at least manage to tolerate each other.  But as Riden raced passed them and around the corner in the direction of the Kornari mansion, Sage knew he was only kidding himself.  They would always be Outsiders to the Chainers.  And Riden would always hate Orifiel enough to keep them separated from each other.

***

Jasmine opened the door to Mireille's room and slipped inside when she heard the okay.  “Hey, how are you doing?”

Mirelle looked up from her notebook, the tip of her pen caught lightly between her teeth.  Her eyes were tired looking and there was a barely visible bruise on the side of her face, but those were the only signs showed of the experience she had gone through.  She managed a shaky smile and nodded as she pulled the pen down from her lip and scooted over on her bed to allow her friend a place to sit.

“I'm okay, I guess.  Just trying to figure out how to write this paper.”  She bowed her head in thought.  “I guess I thought it would have gone differently.”

“Doesn't everyone when they go after something like this?”  Jasmine sat down and patted Mireille's knee.  “At least you can say you got to learn the real reason the house seemed cursed.”

Mireille nodded again.  “Now if only the nightmares would go away so I could sleep.”

“Nightmares?”

“Yeah... I guess that Assassin has decided to continue her mental attacks on me.  It's been hard to rest.”  She sighed and brought a hand up to massage her forehead.  “I spend most of my nights now trying to keep her out of my head.  I need to come up with a stronger protection ward.”  A yawn caught her and she turned her head to one side until it passed.

“You look exhausted.  Good, but exhausted.”

Mireille gave her another smile.  “Thanks,” she returned with a soft laugh.  She tilted her head thoughtfully at her friend.  “There's something on your mind.”

Jasmine frowned slightly before she nodded.  “I had a visit from someone a bit unexpected this morning.”

“Who?”

“Orifiel.”

Mireille blinked before looking down and wrapping her arms around her legs to pull them to her chest.  “What did he have to say?”

“Not much,” Jasmine answered with a half-shrug.  “He asked about you, though.”  She could not help but catch the light that flashed momentarily in her friend's eyes.

“Oh?  What about?”

“Just wanted to know how you were doing... and how he could go about seeing you without your bodyguard around.”

A look of annoyance crossed Mireille's features before she bit her lip.  “Riden would never quiet down about it if he ever caught Orifiel here.”

“You'd think he thought you were his wife or something.”

“He does seem to act like it.  Kind of makes moving on a bit hard to do.”  Mireille was quiet a moment before she looked up again.  “Jas... if he ever comes back to see you and happens to ask about me again, could you tell him he can come see me anytime?  I'll deal with Riden on my own.”

“Sure thing,” Jasmine agreed with a nod.

“Thanks, now...” Mireille paused and picked up her notebook again as she shifted to lay on her stomach.  “Time to tackle this report.”

”For years, rumors would fly about the lonely house where Old Man Wickery made his keep.  Strange lights would be reported; sounds of moans or screams were said to be heard.  People would go in and either return out of their mind, or never return at all.  In an attempt to figure out the secrets behind the cursed manner, a group of teens decided to spend the night.  But somewhere around midnight, the secrets began to be revealed, and the group learned that many things were not as they had always appeared to be...

Mireille dropped her pen again and glanced up at her friend.  “You know... a part of me wishes I could have just donned that sexy kitty costume I had in my closet and just hosted my usual Halloween Party instead of going to that place.”

Jasmine purred with a grin and a quiet laugh.  “Now that would have been fun.”

Mireille laughed and sat up again.  “It's never too late for a party,” she said, going to her closet to pull out her costume.  “I think we need it after what we have been through.”

Jasmine grabbed Mireille's phone from her desk.  “All I have to do is give Maliya a call and you can have the whole school over here by tonight.”

Mireille flashed her a smile and gave a short nod.  As she changed, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and the drawn look to her face seemed to disappear.  Yes, this party was just what she needed to shake off the terror from that house.

And who knows, she thought as she touched the cat ears headband on her head.  An image of Orifiel flashed trough her mind causing her to wear a wistful smile.  Maybe a special sort of magic could be had in the light of the moon tonight...
This was ... for a lack of better term... "cheaply made" even in it's repost.  I basically kept almost everything as it was originally, thus why it is kind of ... not so great.  Oddly enough I keep getting images of another chapter for this which would be more finalizing in a way.  I might just write it.  Not sure yet.  Have so much I actually have to get written that it is a matter of when I get to it at the moment.

Anyway, it was just a quick little side-story in which not everything from it will even take pace it was just a creative little jumpstart.   Hope you enjoyed.
